Discover Istanbul’s Timeless Allure: Where Ancient Splendor Meets Modern Charm | 1st Look Travel

Ready to explore the vibrant tapestry of Istanbul — a cosmopolitan city that blends ancient culture with modern sensibility — in a fresh way? Join 1st Look guest host Sibley Scoles on a mesmerizing foray through the City on the Seven Hills and all its historic landmarks, spiritual communities, and contemporary luxuries. First stop in this episode: We start off this adventure with a mouthwatering traditional Turkish breakfast, while also soaking up local insights from our expert tour guide, Koray Süren. With her belly full of savory treats and a thirst for adventure, Sibley ventures into the heart of Istanbul's historic peninsula. With majestic architectural masterpieces such as the Hagia Sophia, a marvel that spanned empires, the mysterious Basilica Cistern, which is known as the “underground wonderland”, and the breathtaking Blue Mosque. However, Sibley's journey doesn't stop there! She hops on a scenic ferry ride across the Bosphorus Strait, symbolically venturing from Europe to Asia. The destination? Farhi Konsolo, a hidden gem where owner and bartender Burak Ayaz crafts the perfect cocktail — which includes a special cracker to share with a nearby seagull. 2. Buckle up as our next stop is a shopping extravaganza through Istanbul. As Sibley and local style guru Meriç Küçük give you a fashion rundown. First stop: the legendary Grand Bazaar. Prepare to be dazzled by a maze of shops overflowing with everything from hand-woven carpets and glittering jewelry to aromatic spices and handcrafted ceramics. Meriç helps Sibley navigate the bustling market and find one-of-a-kind treasures. The adventure is just getting started, as we delve into the charming Çukurcuma Street, a haven for vintage enthusiasts. Here, Sibley and Meriç will hunt for unique antiques and hidden gems, each piece imbued with a story, as well as try their hand at the deft art of bargaining with a textile cloth owner. Finally, they'll head to the newly revitalized Galataport, a waterfront district boasting chic boutiques and trendy stores. 3. When Sibley decides to indulge in a sweet treat, she receives a delicious Turkish Ice cream cone along with a show! After this, Sibley seeks out a place to unwind. Bathhouses existed to serve a myriad of purposes during the time of the Roman Empire. Today, Sibley enjoys the soothing tranquility of a classic Turkish bath at an elegant Çukurcuma Hamamı, or a modern bathhouse. We watch as she receives not only a full body scrub, but a relaxing bubble massage and steam bath in the beautiful designed architectural feat. Sibley then gets to enjoy a delicious meal at Giritli restaurant, cooked to perfection by chef Ayşe Şensılay. This restaurant is known as a “modern meyhane”, which is a new take on the prohibition-era meyhanes, also known as taverns, that were present during the Ottoman Empire. Chef Ayşe Şensılay chats with Sibley about the inspiration for Giritli restaurant, and introduces her to a variety of classic Turkish dishes that are served at the restaurant. 4. Istanbul’s history comes to life at the beautifully curated Atatürk Cultural Centre. Art Director Remzi Buharalı shows Sibley around the landmark and explains each of the unique fixtures inside. Inside, you can find everything from a library, cinema hall, cafes, to even a children’s art centre. Sibley enjoys the classic cultural opera, Carmen, at the Centre before heading over to the Michelin starred restaurant, Neolokal, for a delicious meal. Chef Maksut Askar explains how the innovative restaurant is able to seamlessly blend comfort food and art in order to create dishes that look like art pieces on a plate. And that concludes our whirlwind adventure in Istanbul! Thank you all for joining us for this incredible ride and feel free to drop us a comment telling us what you enjoyed most about this travel episode. Turning Trash Into Treasure | LX News

The entrepreneurs behind a Brooklyn fashion retailer are practicing a zero waste lifestyle at work and at home. Designer Daniel Silverstein and his partner Mario DeMarco run Zero Waste Daniel, a brand making genderless clothing and accessories out of upcycled and recycled materials from factories, cutting rooms and designers across New York City. “We’re able to see value in things that other people would call trash,” Silverstein said. The duo is disciplined about sending nothing to landfills. All of the scraps that they don’t use in their own work remains in the shop until it can be repurposed. Silverstein and DeMarco, who met on Tinder, also live together and say they practice their “zero waste” philosophy in their home life as well. “We don’t have a trash can at home,” DeMarco said. “Everything that [Daniel] talks about in his shop is actually happening in our home.” Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/c/NBCLX?sub_confirmation=1 YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/NBCLX Find us on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@nbclx Find us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nbclx Find us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/nbclx Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NBCLX/ Visit our website: https://www.lx.com/ We are passionate and engaged storytellers with a mission to inform and inspire. Fertility Treatments During COVID with ‘The Egg Whisperer’ | NBCLX

After coronavirus cases first exploded in the U.S. in March, fertility treatments ground to a halt. Some women were forced to stop treatments mid-cycle, while others had embryo transfers delayed. This has been agonizing to couples who have spent years and thousands of dollars working toward a pregnancy — and particularly painful for older women who have precious little time. Fertility clinics are now starting to reopen, but with new restrictions that have made the process more difficult for many couples. And the future of treatments remains uncertain as the country braces for a possible second wave of Covid-19 cases in the fall. NBCLX spoke about this painful process with four couples going through fertility treatments as well as with Dr. Aimee Eyvazzadeh, a fertility specialist who goes by “The Egg Whisperer.” Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/nbclx?sub_confirmation=1 Find us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nbclx/ Find us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/nbclx Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NBCLX/ Visit our website: https://www.lx.com/ ABOUT NBCLX: Every story is local. Inside Hannah Bronfman & Brendan Fallis' Renovated NoHo Loft | Open House TV

Step inside the stylish NoHo loft of Hannah Bronfman and Brendan Fallis. See how the entrepreneurial power couple transformed this cavernous downtown NYC factory warehouse into a contemporary dream home for them and their two young children, Preston and Claude. Since purchasing their home a little over four years ago, they have been renovating it into a triplex that includes a mezzanine level that consists of the primary suite, main level, and lower level with two bedrooms, media room, and a conservatory (atrium). Overall, they wanted to create a home that felt warm and inviting, but could also accommodate large groups for family gatherings and dinner parties — so they turned the living room into an optimal entertaining area with an open-floor setting, plush communal sofa, record bar, and large coffee table. As for one of the focal points in this expansive space is an overhead art piece light fixture called the 'floss coordinates' that's actually five different chandeliers that's been worked up into a cone and not only pulls in the brass from the mirrors left behind by the previous owners but also draws you into the center of the space. Other points of visual interest include: the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, which belonged to the previous owner who was a rare book collector at the iconic Strand bookstore, that they chose to leave intact and simply updated the hardware and added brass detailing at the bottom; the all-white kitchen with a marble backsplash, burners that are directly integrated into the countertop, and newspaper clippings from 1894 that the couple found in the floorboards and decided to frame and hang up in the kitchen to commemorate the home's original history; a dining room that stands out with its decorative floors, skylight, and art-deco chandelier that you can manually mold for a touch of glam; and a primary bedroom with glass panes that frost with a click of a button for added privacy, en suite bathroom, and massive walk-in closet in which their son Preston to loves up and down.
