We begin our Vermont journey at Killeen Crossroads Farm, exploring the culture of intentional farming that has made this progressively thinking state the harbor of unique forms of harvesting — which includes the cheese and wine we regularly consume — while also savoring a true farm-to-table seasonal meal with Sas Stewart (owner of Adventure dinner) and local farmers and producers. From Jasper Hill Farm, where taking it slow results in the best quality of cheese, to Kalchē Wine vineyards, a welcoming winery co-operative that gains wine straight from the grape, Vermont makes it possible to create quality products for the community and make it worth talking about. (And yes, Tabitha got to crush some alpine hybrid grapes in the process!) 2. "The hills are alive” at the Trapp Family Lodge, where we learn more about the true story behind the sensational musical film “The Sound of Music" and the real-life von Trapp family and their arrival to the US as a singing troupe. This space, nestled in the misty mountains of Stowe, has been a popular spot for years for nature appreciators to take in the beautiful views — but the history behind this lodge is truly what makes people check out this landmark for “A Little of Austria, A Lot of Vermont!” 3. Molding glass and slip casting has been a staple in the art scene of Vermont and, to this very day, continues to remain a popular fixture. Whether it be the creation of such a unique piece of artistic expression, or sitting around the fire and telling stories, this process of sculpting has been instrumental in the state’s community for generations. While visiting AO Glass, Tabitha interviews Rich Arentzen and Tove Ohlander — its welcoming Swedish owners who chose to settle in Burlington due to the city's creative community support and environmental common sense — to learn more about the artist community and the art of glass blowing in further depth. She even gets to enjoy a glass-blowing lesson! And that's not all! What followed was a deeper exploration of a vibrant city often misunderstood, but rich in layers...where local pride runs deep and a new wave of creative energy is revitalizing the community. Stretching out beneath a blue sky, the city’s famed boardwalk has been welcoming visitors since the 1870s. Originally designed to keep sand out of hotel lobbies, it became the template for all others. Today, it remains a place the same level of entertainment that has long been the city's calling card. For example, just off the boardwalk, Steel Pier extends 1,000 feet into the ocean and continues to operate as a cherished amusement park. Another thing Atlantic City excels at? Feeding guests in a MAJOR way. A few blocks from the boardwalk, White House Subs has remained a staple since 1946. Celebrities & locals alike have lined up for its towering Italian cold cuts and made-to-order cheesesteaks. The shop still sources its bread from a neighborhood bakery and cuts its steaks by hand each day. For those seeking a more elevated experience, there’s also Dock’s Oyster House. Family-owned since 1897, the restaurant pairs fresh seafood with old-world hospitality and zero pretense. Whether it’s scallops, soft-shell crab, or a perfectly executed French fry (aka pommes soufflées), the kitchen here is a talented force. When night falls, the city shifts gears. At The Hook by Spiegelworld, audiences are treated to a high-octane mix of circus, comedy, and burlesque in a century-old theater, lovingly restored and brimming with thrills. This isn’t Broadway nor does it try to be; the show is raw, irreverent,, and welcoming. After that, Jared explores more of AC's bold flavors at Hash House A Go Go, where portions are enormous & indulgence is encouraged. It’s hard to miss the towering stacks of fried chicken, bacon-studded waffles, and syrup-soaked French toast. Just beyond AC, Margate’s Lucy the Elephant: a six-story novelty structure built in 1881 to sell real estate that continues to enthrall visitors and capture the imagination. Older than the Statue of Liberty, Lucy now stands as the United State's oldest roadside attraction, recently restored (yes, she receives frequent pedicures) and is recognized as the national treasure that she is. A few miles inland, the Renault Winery in Egg Harbor serves up another kind of history. Founded in 1864, it is the second-oldest winery in the U.S. and the only American vineyard licensed to label its sparkling wine as champagne. Visitors can dine, taste, and even stay overnight on the property, where wine glasses once used at the Eiffel Tower’s opening are preserved in the on-site speakeasy. Meanwhile, just a short drive away, the pace softens in Smithville Village, a centuries-old hamlet where time seems to slow. Cobblestone paths wind past weathered storefronts, some dating back to the 18th & 19th centuries, each one brimming with small-town character. Here, the soundtrack is less surf & slot machines, and more wind in the trees and the creak of wooden porches. A visit might mean browsing antique shops, sipping coffee on a bench, or, in Jared’s case, picking out a thoughtful gift for his wife Ashley from a collection of pens inscribed with movie quotes. Back in the heart of Atlantic City, neighborhoods such as the Orange Loop are redefining the area. Named after the trio of Monopoly streets it represents (New York, St. James & Tennessee Avenues), the area is now home to art galleries, coffee shops, live music venues, and restaurants that reflect an exciting new energy. The goal isn’t to erase the past, but to build on it. Just blocks away, spots such as Hayday Coffee & The Cardinal have become staples for locals and newcomers alike, while Setaara offers a refined take on Afghan-French fusion in the historic Ducktown area. For big thrills and deep roots, the city delivers: dive into the excitement at Island Waterpark at Showboat, or step inside Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall, where the world’s largest pipe organ will astound you. And tucked into the city’s quieter corners? You'll find places like the Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, a vast stretch of protected wetlands just ten minutes from the casinos. There, egrets and cranes glide over salt marshes as the skyline of Atlantic City flickers in the distance. Overall, Atlantic City is a destination of contrasts. Today, Sibley enjoys the soothing tranquility of a classic Turkish bath at an elegant Çukurcuma Hamamı, or a modern bathhouse. We watch as she receives not only a full body scrub, but a relaxing bubble massage and steam bath in the beautiful designed architectural feat. Sibley then gets to enjoy a delicious meal at Giritli restaurant, cooked to perfection by chef Ayşe Şensılay. This restaurant is known as a “modern meyhane”, which is a new take on the prohibition-era meyhanes, also known as taverns, that were present during the Ottoman Empire. Chef Ayşe Şensılay chats with Sibley about the inspiration for Giritli restaurant, and introduces her to a variety of classic Turkish dishes that are served at the restaurant. 4. Istanbul’s history comes to life at the beautifully curated Atatürk Cultural Centre. Art Director Remzi Buharalı shows Sibley around the landmark and explains each of the unique fixtures inside. Inside, you can find everything from a library, cinema hall, cafes, to even a children’s art centre. Sibley enjoys the classic cultural opera, Carmen, at the Centre before heading over to the Michelin starred restaurant, Neolokal, for a delicious meal. Chef Maksut Askar explains how the innovative restaurant is able to seamlessly blend comfort food and art in order to create dishes that look like art pieces on a plate.
